Have you ever wondered why you do certain things and how come you cant seem to get to that place in life you are so longing to be?
Our belief systems have something to do with that… We form patterns and beliefs through our experiences. Our experiences teach us what is safe, what our nervous system is able to manage and the quickest easiest way to protect ourselves from uncomfortable feelings.
Learning about your own personal belief systems can be truly empowering. Some beliefs are incredibly helpful and others can create hardship or hold us back. Getting to know your beliefs allows you to choose which ones you would like to keep and which ones you would like to focus on more. When we focus on a belief system it is often through awareness that we create change.
Will power alone does not create achievement, its is the story we are telling ourselves. Quite often this story can be hidden or buried but is so powerful no matter where it hides within us.
For several years now I have been working on my story and becoming aware of the belief systems I had developed. They told me that I could only achieve so much, be careful you don’t go too high or it will all come crashing down, down trust people – they will just let you down or hurt you… and so many others rear their little heads. Thankfully now I am starting to notice them more and this gives me a choice whether to listen or create a different storyline.

Yes this work can get pretty uncomfortable as these beliefs systems have been developed to try and save me from the “uncomfortables” in life right, so if we are going to tackle them, we are going to have to feel the feels, but honestly, from what I have experienced – TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!!
I actually found some of my beliefs weren’t even mine to keep, they came from other peoples experiences and fears. I have been told a lot throughout my life that I can’t do certain things – haha I created a watch me kind of behaviour but deep down my beliefs believed this statement. I would get so far and then something would happen I didn’t quite reach my goal… never mind – at least I tried right. Nope – if you read my previous blog you would know I lost everything only 10 years ago – belief systems on the ready telling me see I told you, you tried to reach to high….you can’t trust people… you’re not good enough.
Through this turmoil I gained a certain freedom, by losing everything I had nothing left to lose. (Reminds me of a line from a Janis Joplin song – Freedoms just another word for nothing left to lose) So I decided to go to Uni to change my career and help others. Through learning how to help others in hard times I learnt so much more about myself. I am so thankful for this journey, it has helped me to see what is mine, what thoughts/beliefs belong to someone else and what choices I have in my own life. I have learnt how to create new beliefs within myself, ones that are supportive and kind and allow me to explore the amazing adventures life offers including healthy connection and safe, trusting relationships.
I am once again building a business, but this time my business is nurturing and supportive and I’m putting myself out there for people to see me and what I do – This blog is an example – no way would I have written anything like this even 1 years ago. If I can encourage 1 person to source support and get to know their own belief systems then I am so so grateful. Yes I still have my days, but I am more grounded, aware and accepting of myself, I am more connected to others and have some beautiful relationships within community, friends, family and my husband. It is never too late to get support and find out more about your own belief systems!!
Where ever this lands for you today – I send my warmest wishes and support.
